Deacons are to be godly and capable servant-minded people who will function in the administration, practical affairs and care of the local church. They support the Elders by sharing in the ministries of the church, freeing the Elders for the work of oversight, ministry of the Word and prayer. In our church, deacons serve for a period of two (2) years. They serve alongside the Elders on the church Leadership, attending a monthly Leadership meeting. Deacons will be allocated portfolios to handle, and this is done by the Leadership at the first meeting after the AGM.

The criteria for Deacons are spelt out in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

Errol Gravett (Door Stewards)

Errol has been a member at Randburg Baptist Church since 2000, and has previously served as a deacon (2004-2006). He is actively serving as Chairman of the Men’s Ministry Committee. Errol rejoined the diaconate in 2013, and handles the deacon portfolio for “Door Steward and Car Security.”  Errol is married to Wanita, and they have one son, Joshua.

Lazarus  Modisaotsile (Sound and Technology for 12h00 service)

Lazarus started attending Randburg Baptist Church in 2003, and took out membership in 2006. He was elected as a deacon in 2007, serving as liaison with the then 11h30 service ministry areas. Lazarus also serves on our Outreach Committee and Finance Committee.  Lazarus is very involved with the 12h00 seTswana service, through leading worship and occasional teaching.  He is married to Manana, and they are blessed with a son (Kagisano) and daughter (Omolemo).

Martin Thöle (Premises and maintenancee)

Martin’s journey with Randburg Baptist Church started in 1999, taking membership in the same period. Martin was elected as a deacon in 2003, and has served consistently since then. He has largely overseen the maintenance and premises side of church life, and his unseen visits for repair, touch ups, supervision and other practical issues is often unseen, but much appreciated. Martin is married to Rose, and they have two married children.
